Why join The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Moms in Training program?

  • Because we all know someone touched by cancer
  • Because kids should never have to battle cancer
  • Because as moms, we can give back and make a difference

What is Moms in Training?

  • The brand new LLS Moms in Training program recruits moms who are passionate about fighting blood cancers and saving lives 
  • MIT will get you ready to run or walk a 5K to help raise money to fight cancer
  • A flexible 8-week workout program on Saturday mornings at 9:00AM
  • Workouts are held at The Crossings of Colonie
  • Enjoy social events throughout the season with moms in the Capital Region
  • Program culminates with a 5K run/walk at the Mastodon Challenge in Cohoes on May 10, 2014. (optional)

What are the benefits of the Moms In Training team?

Moms have the chance to stay in shape and train at a location convenient for them. Not only will you meet other moms, but you'll be gaining new workout buddies and play-date opportunities! Additionally, you'll have the ability to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and be a part of the incredible research LLS is doing to cure blood cancers and support Upstate NY and Vermont cancer patients in need.

 

I know someone affected by cancer. Can I train & fundraise in honor or memory of them?
Absolutely! We encourage you to honor someone you know who has been affected by ANY type of cancer.

Is my child allowed at the work-out?

As long as your baby is able to remain in the stroller, you are welcome to bring your baby to the trainings! The workouts allow you to exercise with a stroller. Jogging strollers are not required.

What if I cannot attend all the work-outs or participate in the May event?

The program is tailored around being flexible for moms! We encourage you to attend as many work-outs as you can. You can still participate in the program even if you are unable to participate in the May 5k.

When/where does this start & what do the work-outs consist of?

There will be an introductory kick off event on March 8, 2014. Workouts will start on March 15, 2014 and continue every Saturday @ 9:00am. Workouts will be approximately 60-75 minutes. Workouts will consist of running, walking, cross-training & stretching.

I am not an athlete at all! Can I really train to complete 3.1 miles in eight weeks?

YES! We have moms of all levels who join. You have the ability to run, walk or do a run/walk combination.

How much do I have to fundraise in order to participate?

For this event we ask that commit to fundriasing $500. You will receive a fundraising website & additional staff support. There is a $50 registration fee to join, which is credited towards your fundraising goal.

 

Am I able to withdraw from the program at a later date?

Yes. You will have an opportunity to withdraw with no further fundraising obligation.

 

If I can not attend the race can I still participate in the training?

Yes! The event is optional and most find the training rewarding in itself.

 

When does the program run? 

The program dates are March 15, 2014- through May 10, 2014.
