Morgan's Letter
Hello Teammates.
As a recent college graduate, and a dual sport athlete in soccer and basketball at Mitchell College of New London, I'm extremely excited to be on this journey with you all; I hope you all are just as excited as I am. I just want to encourage each and everyone of you to keep a hold of why you all are running for Team In Training. It's to continue to save lives. I have met a handful of you and hope to meet everyone at some point. I just want you to know that you all are making a difference. If you are tired of training and sick of fundraising becuase it is getting harder than expected, then please look in the mirror and notice youare healthy and able. If you need something deeper to get that fire going again then please take a moment and put yourself into my shoes.
Imagine being 18, a senior at highschool, and about to graduate when all of a sudden your life is turned upside down in the blink of an eye. Cancer is one of the most frightening words a person can hear, especially as an 18 year old, who plays sports and seems to be healthy. On March 15, 2006, I was taken from looking at my bright future to fighting for my life and looking at chemotherapy and radiation options for the next 10 months. I was devastated, schoked, angry, and scared but I knew I had to lift my head up and tackle this disease.
I can now truly say, at 23, that I understand and fully grasp what is means to be a survivor. I now have a burning disre and passion to share my new perspectives, joy, hope, laughter, and love for small things in life that i have gained through this disease. Throughout my treatments, I had the most amazing support system anyone could ask for and I want to pay it forward to as many people as possible. The people that I met a chemotherapy were amazing and had awesome stories just like mine. So running in this race for cancer goes way beyond my goals and aspirations. It is for the people I have met, the people I am going to meet, the survivors, and the people that have lost their lives to this battle.
It is extremely hard to describe the love and compassion I have for people now and the hope and faith. I can honestly say that if it were not for cancer, my faith in God and love for life would not be where it is today! I will be here to pick you back up and get going again. I will encourage you all as much as I can, but desire and heart is really what we all need to tap into!!
See you at the finish line and never NEVER give up!!
