Team Honored Heroes

Each Team In Training® participant can train in honor or memory of someone from their personal life who has been affected by cancer. Participants can also train and fundraise in honor of a local team honoree who is a blood cancer patient or survivor.

Rocky

Rocky is one of our Fall 2009 honored teammates who participates with our El Tour de Tucson cycle team.  He was recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma in September of 2008.  Thankfully, Rocky is now in remission and has been able to return to some of his activities he loves most.  When he's not with the team, Rocky enjoys fishing, hiking, and gardening.  As an Honored Hero he hopes to be an encourager most of all!  As an encourager for his team, he always references a quote by Winston Churchill, "Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference."  We would like to thank Rocky for his positive attitude and the inspiration he not only gives to his team, but to us all.

 Victoria

Victoria is part of our Nike and RNRSA Marathon team!  She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in May of 1995 and is now a 17-year-old Survivor!  A few of her favorite activities are photography, swimming, and playing various sports.  She also enjoys rock wall climbing, reading, and journalism competitions.  As one of our valued Fall 2009 Honored Heroes she hopes to help support the team in accomplishing their goals.  She always tells teammates to "Live life to the fullest!"

 Sarah

Sarah is not only one of our Honored Heroes for Fall 2009, but also participates in and fundraises for our Nike and RNRSA Marathon team.  She was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma in September of 2008 and has been in remission since March of 2009.  Sarah enjoys being "...a pretty big Nerd!"  She loves wine and has become quite the connoisseur!  She says "wine totally helped with my chemo side effects!"  She enjoys yoga, live music, and Medieval - themed or historical fiction book.  As an Honored Hero she wants to INSPIRE!  Sarah believes "the most meaningful thought I kept with me was that if I can't change my circumstances, I need to make the best of them:  I am NOT a victim.  I will take what is handed to me and deal with it - ideally laughing the entire way."

Clarisa

Clarisa comes to us from our Nations Triathlon team; we are very excited to include her as one of our Fall 2009 Honored team mates.  Clarisa was diagnosed in December of 2008 with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and is currently in treatment.  As a middle school guidance counselor, she is not only a beacon of direction and inspiration for many students, she is also a source of strength and motivation for her teammates as well.  As an honored hero she motivates and inspires her athletes.  Clarisa says, "I know that training for a big event can be difficult, but it is greatly appreciated and helps so many."  A few words of encouragement she would like to share with her teammates are, "Don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow.  God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes."
