Have you
ever thought about walking or running a marathon or half marathon,
cycling a century ride or completing a triathlon? Do you have a
competitive spirit, a can-do attitude and a passion for helping others?
Then Team In Training® (TNT) , is definitely for you! From
the beginner to the seasoned pro, TNT will give you the experience of a
lifetime.
Team In Training
is the world's largest endurance sports training program. Offering
marathons, half marathons, century rides and triathlons, the South Texas
Chapter trains individuals for a variety of events and programs to make the
Team In Training experience a memorable one. Our program provides
experienced coaches to help participants reach their goals and mentors to
provide encouragement and advice. Your honored teammate, a local child or
adult survivor of blood cancers, will give you the added motivation to keep
training and push hard on the day of the event.
After registering for the program, each participant receives a TNT Nike
Dri-Fit T-shirt, a training schedule, fundraising supplies and information
on the Society and how to get started fundraising. Each participant is also
paired with a mentor (a successful alumnus of the program).
While you train, we ask that you raise funds for
the Society. Your TNT staff and mentors will provide you with the tools you
need to be a successful fundraiser. In exchange for your fundraising
efforts you will receive:
·
Professional coaching,
·
Weekly team trainings,
·
4-5 month training schedule,
·
Clinics on shoe fit, injury prevention, nutrition, equipment and more,
·
Travel and accommodations to your event destination,
·
Pasta Party and Victory Party,
·
Race day singlet,
·
Race entry,
·
Fundraising support and incentives,
·
The opportunity to help fund cures for leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma,
·
A team mentor who serves as a resource and peer,
·
Support, support, support.
Honor Teammates
We always welcome people to participate in honor or memory of loved ones,
family or friends who have been affected by blood cancers. If you do not
know anyone that has been affected personally by a blood cancer, each team
has an honored teammate. They provide the inspiration and support to TNT
participants throughout the training period.
The Mentor Program
Mentors are past TNT participants who were successful with training and
fundraising and who want to help support new team members in reaching their
goals. They are volunteers who are committed to your success and hope to
make your TNT experience a good one. They are a valued resource in
answering your questions.
Training
There are three training programs designed to assist you with your
training, depending upon your skill level. At the beginning of the season
you will be given an individualized schedule based on your current fitness
level to optimally prepare you for your event. Your time commitment will
depend on how closely you follow your training schedule and includes
recovery or rest days after hard trainings. Strength training and cross
training can be worked into the schedule as well. The training schedule
will gradually progress in time and mileage to allow your body to acclimate
to the demands of preparing for a half or full marathon, century ride or
triathlon.
Fundraising
There are many ways to raise the necessary funds to complete the TNT
program. If you have a good plan and start early, you will find that
raising the funds is easier than you think. Remember, over 30,000 people
reached their goal last year.
Developing a list of possible donors is the first step to success. 70 % of
all funds donated are raised through the letter writing campaign. Other
ideas include parties, coin boxes, garage sales, silent and live auctions,
corporate fundraising and more! After you sign up for the program you
will be invited to a fundraising clinic to help you set up your online
fundraising website and get started with your letter writing campaign.
Staff and mentors are available to assist with your fundraising to help you
reach your goal.
Don't miss the opportunity to experience the rewards of completing an
endurance event while helping to accelerate cures for blood cancers!
