Prerequisites
The Team In Training® triathlon programs are open to
participants with any and all levels of cycling, swimming and running
experience - from absolute beginners to experienced racers. Within each program
participants are divided into groups by level.
Training Program
TNT triathlon coaches design
three-month training programs that prepare participants for the
Sprint (0.25 mile swim, 10 mile mountain bike, and 2 mile
run), Olympic (0.93 mile swim, 24.8 mile bike, and 6.2
mile run), or Half Ironman (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike,
and 13.1 mile run) distances. Coaches work directly with participants at
weekly training sessions and are also available throughout the week to
answer training and fitness-related questions.
The triathlon training program focuses on enhancing participants' swimming,
cycling, and running endurance, agility, and technique. Open water swims,
transition workouts, strength training, injury prevention and nutrition are
integral. A typical weekly schedule of training for the triathlon programs
consists of:
- A weekday coached track workout in the evening lasting one to 1.5
hours, often with a segment of strength training
- A coached team training on either Saturday or Sunday morning,
featuring a combination of swimming/biking or swimming/running
- A captain-led workouts on the opposite Saturday or Sunday morning
for one to 1.5 hours, focusing on sport not covered on coached team
training days
- Two days of on-your-own swim workouts based on provided schedule
- One day on-your-own bike workout
- One rest day
- Additional clinics on gear, biomechanics, nutrition, injury
prevention, and more
Coaches
The TNT triathlon offers a qualified and dedicated group of triathlon
trainers. We select our coaches for their experience, professionalism,
knowledge, and enthusiasm, as well as their devotion to the cause. All have
extensive coaching experience and have proven themselves in numerous
athletic endeavors.
Mentors
We match TNT triathlon members in an
approximate 8-1 ratio with a past TNT participant, otherwise known as a
mentor. Mentors serve both as a resource and as a peer advisor, encouraging
and supporting team members throughout the training and fundraising season.
Honorees
TNT members train and raise funds in honor
of a local resident who has been affected by a blood cancer. Your honoree
becomes your inspiration as you work toward goals that will better both of
your lives. We provide each triathlon participant with a wristband to wear
with the team honoree' s name.
