Train for an Ironman Distance Triathlon with Team In
Training® (TNT)
The Ironman
distance is a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike and a 26.2-mile run. The TNT
IronTeam consists of a nine- to 10-month program beginning now, and
training for an Ironman distance triathlon.
Training
The training itself is broken up into three
trimesters. The first three or so months is the "Base" season with
anticipated weekly training of five to 11 hours. The second trimester is
the "Build" phase, with anticipated weekly training of six to 13 hours. The
last is the "Race" phase, with weekly-anticipated training of eight to 18
hours.
As in all Team In Training programs, we provide coach-led and past
participant-led buddy trainings. The team follows a comprehensive schedule
developed by the coaches, including training mileage, strength and cross
training and a schedule of rest. In addition, training clinics are held
throughout the training period, covering such topics as nutrition, injury
prevention, shoe and equipment selection, strength training and sports
psychology.
