Prerequisites: Beginners Welcome!
The Team In Training (TNT) cross-country ski program is open to participants with any and all levels of skiing experience and fitness -- from absolute beginners to experienced racers. Advanced participants may choose "skate" style skiing. Within each program, participants are divided into training groups by preferred skiing speed. Participants should be ready to hike two to four miles at the first team training.
Training Program
TNT ski coaches have designed a four-month training program that prepares participants for their choice of a 25k, 40k or 50k ski marathon event. The head coach will be available to answer training and fitness-related questions.
Coached ski workouts will be held two to three Saturdays per month starting in early December. These sessions will include group lessons on the mechanics of traditional and skate skiing. The coached workouts are typically held at Royal Gorge, Tahoe Donner and Bear Valley Cross Country Ski Areas. On non-coached Saturdays, cross-training will be offered by your mentor. Dry land trainings will be held during the week at various track locations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Participants receive a complete workout schedule for the season. Our training program focuses on enhancing participants' fitness, strength, endurance and technical ability. In addition to time spent skiing, participants are offered training on stretching, injury prevention, nutrition and equipment choice and maintenance.
Coaches
The TNT cross-country ski program coaches were selected for their experience, professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as their devotion to Team In Training and to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission. All have extensive skiing experience and have proven themselves in numerous athletic endeavors.
Mentors
TNT cross-country ski participants will be matched in an approximate 8:1 ratio with a past TNT participant. The mentor will serve as a resource and peer advisor, encouraging team members throughout the training and fundraising season.
Honorees
Honorees are individuals who are currently in treatment or have completed treatment for blood cancers. Your team and personal honorees will inspire you to raise funds and cross the finish line.
