About the Cycle Teams:
SF/Marin/East Bay Cycle trains in the outlying areas of Marin, Alameda, Contra Costa and San Mateo counties that provide multiple training routes, beautiful scenery and plenty of opportunities to refuel at various delicious bakeries. This includes Point Reyes, Novato, Livermore Wine Country, Collier Canyon and the East Bay Hills.

Training Program
TNT provides a noncompetitive, comprehensive program to prepare you for an endurance cycle event. The program is designed with the busy person in mind, so most weekday workouts are 45-90 minutes or less, with longer workouts on the weekend.
Designed and implemented by professional cycling coaches, the training program consists of daily workout schedules (including rest days!), team workouts on alternate Saturdays and occasional Sundays, and information clinics on bike handling, nutrition, stretching, injury prevention and bike maintenance.
We will assess your ability at our early rides and then place you in a ride group that fits your comfort level on the bike. Each ride group has riders of similar pace, a coach, and ride support staff. You get individual training for your ability and the safety of riding in a group.
During the week, you do strength training and riding on your own. We give you a calendar that tells you what to do each day. We recommend you get in at least 75% of the training, and make certain 'milestone' team rides (where we cover 40, 60, and 80 miles) to help the coaches gauge your progress.
Prerequisites and Equipment
TNT welcomes all levels of experience, with light prerequisites. Our training program is designed to turn the beginning cyclist into an endurance event finisher and to help seasoned riders meet their training goals. If you plan to train for an event that is less than 50 miles, you should be healthy enough for exercise and be able to ride a bike. If you plan to train for an event that is more than 50 miles, you should be able to ride at least 10 miles (30 miles for Death Ride) on your own by Kickoff.
You will eventually need everything listed below. After Kickoff your coach will show you what you need, what you might want, and what to look for. As a TNT participant you receive a training jersey at Kickoff and an event jersey before your event.
Most participants get a road bike, but some people prefer a mountain or hybrid bike. No matter what kind of bike you ride, we recommend that you use road tires (not the knobby kind) to make it easier. If you don't have a bike yet, our coaches will help you select or borrow one. You do not need clipless pedals, but you must have a helmet!
- Helmet and bicycle
- Cycling shorts, sunglasses and shoes (recommended)
- Spare inner tubes, tire levers, bike pump
- Water bottles (and cages) or hydration pack
Fundraising Milestones: What's Next?
Registration: When you sign up, you pay a registration fee to help LLS pay for the first six weeks of your training. LLS applies this fee to your fundraising minimum.
Kickoff (Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. to Noon in San Francisco for local teams): Meet your teammates, coaches and staff for the first time at Kickoff. Your first coached workout is
in the week after Kickoff.
Recommitment (About six weeks after Kickoff): This is your opportunity to assess your progress. At recommitment, you make the decision to either stay on the team and finish your fundraising, or withdraw from the team with no further obligation.
When you recommit, LLS starts to pay for your event and other training expenses. Unless you've already met your fundraising minimum, you secure your place on the team by providing us with a check or a credit card number. We do not charge you anything at this time.
Fundraising deadline: You have until about two weeks before your event to meet your minimum. If you have not met your minimum by the deadline, you donate the remainder with the credit card or check you provided. Rest assured, most TNT participants actually surpass their minimum.
All of this allows us to ensure your donors and the patients and families we serve that at least 75% of LLS expenses goes to the mission.
