Team In Training has trained more than 17,000 Northern Californians to cross finish lines around the world.  All participants are involved in a lifesaving mission: To cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.

Local Honoree: Shelby Miguel

Right after her fourth birthday, Shelby was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer called Burkitts Lymphoma. After enduring five months of chemotherapy and all its punishing side effects, she emerged a strong survivor.

As an honoree for Team in Training, Shelby enjoys cheering on participants. We asked her what TNT means to her, and here's what she said: "My runners are running so they can get money to buy better medicine for kids who were sick like me, so all of them can get better like me."

Challenge yourself, save lives and have fun. Go Team!

When Ed Stone joined Team In Training at age 26, he had already learned the hard way that "what doesn't kill you makes you strong." As a young college student, he was diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia, a cancer that nearly ended his life. It took a risky bone marrow transplant to save him. During the next 13 years, he battled and persevered through two additional types of cancer.

As if battling cancer weren't enough, at the same time, Ed trained with TNT for no less than 12 events, including marathons, half marathons, century (100-mile) bike rides and eight triathlons!

"Cancer and the challenges of treatment taught me a few things about endurance," said Ed. "When I learned I could train with TNT and raise funds for cancer research to help others, there was no stopping me."

Ed is living proof of the "mind-body connection." He has beaten cancer and evolved into a world-class athlete. He is the living answer to the question: "I wonder if I could do an endurance event?" And the answer is, with "Team In Training, yes you can!"
