Meet the Coaches

Stephanie Terrell_TNT
Stephanie Terrell, Marathon Coach

I completed my first marathon with Team In Training back in December 2001, joined the staff of TNT in January 2002 and became a TNT coach in August 2005.  I have completed 38 marathons, 3 ultra marathons, 6 century bike rides, countless triathlons and 1 Ironman... and 13 of these have been fundraising events for TNT so you can say I've been in your shoes.

Team In Training is the perfect program because you get to meet and train with incredible people for an endurance event, AND be a part of finding the cures to cancer.  I come back season after season because I believe we will find a cure for cancer and I want to be at the finish line when we do.

This season is extra special for me since we have formed a corporate team in memory of one of my closest friends who passed away this past October after a 13-year battle with lymphoma. Ruben was such an incredible person and I cannot wait to share his story and celebrate his legacy with you this season.

Daniel Campbell
Daniel Campbell, Marathon Coach

Coach Daniel has been an avid marathoner since attending his first Team In Training info meeting in 2005. Since then, he has run over 15 marathons including the Boston Marathon, Disney Marathon, San Diego Marathon, and most of the marathons in Texas. His passion for running is driven by the camaraderie shared between runners and occasionally finding that "runner's high."

His coaching philosophy is to always serve his participants. He tries to understand each participant's goal for the upcoming race whether it be qualifying for the Boston Marathon or getting back into shape. He is energized each season by the new faces he gets to meet and the old friends he catches up with.

Daniel's connection to the cause began with the unfortunate loss of his father-in-law to leukemia in 1995 and continues with each hero he meets through TNT. While crossing the finish-line is a great feeling, there is no better feeling than learning that some of the monies raised by Team In Training have helped to save lives.

During his spare time, Daniel spends as much time as he can with his wife and their son, Baker. These days that generally means helping Baker to find anything that looks like a tractor or a bulldozer!

Marco Munoz
Marco Munoz, Triathlon Coach

My love of triathlons came from my love of cycling. I had an uncle that raced the Vuelta de Espaņa (Tour of Spain) in the 1930s. He was my inspiration. The last time I rode with him in Madrid, he was 86. I trained to go to the 1984 Olympics, but I ended up switching the bike for my law degree. I have done 2 full Ironmans, 3 half Ironmans and several Olympic and Sprint distance triathlons. I am a bad swimmer but the bike always helps me to do a decent job in triathlons. I also did Tae Kwon Do starting at 9 years old. I am a 2 degree black belt but not training any more. I used to play soccer but never competitive. I love to ride my bike with friends in the Pyrenees, Colorado and of course in beautiful Austin.

My brother-in-law died from leukemia when he was 15. My wife and her family members were devastated. My dad also passed away from cancer. So many people have been affected by this terrible and destructive disease that I believe it is time to find a cure! I will do anything to help to find a cure, and for me through Team In Training is the best way to do it. I coach and train with TNT in honor of all the people that have been impacted by any kind of blood cancer. Go Team!

Prescott Christian
Prescott Christian, Cycle Coach

I joined Team In Training in 1998 at the recommendation of my brother Anthony who was the TNT Marathon Coach at the time. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society wanted to add cycling to their TNT program in Central Texas and were looking for a coach. I had also unfortunately just lost a good friend to Leukemia so I felt and understood the mission. I remember Anthony saying that if I didn't like it, I could stop after 5 months. I took our first Cycle Team to El Tour de Tucson in the Fall of 1998, and now 25 plus teams later...I still like it.

My affinity for cycling dates back to my first bicycle race in 1973. Subsequent racing and training around the US and in Europe exposed me to many different aspects of the sport. I realized early that there are so many different ways to enjoy riding a bicycle and that cycling is an activity that can be enjoyed for a lifetime.

Being able to introduce folks to cycling and showing them how to become stronger and more efficient cyclists is one of the perks to being the TNT Cycle Coach. I have also made some life-long friendships and have met some really incredible people along the way.

Since 1998, I have helped hundreds of individuals become better cyclists and all in turn have collectively raised millions of dollars. These funds have positively impacted the treatment options available to patients and the support for patients and their families. In my relatively short time with TNT, I have seen first-hand the significant advancements toward a cure and understand that what we do does makes a difference. It already has. As long as we are able to fund the research, a cure will be found. So, I will stay committed and continue to do my part. GO TEAM!
