MEET SHALYN

Shalyn one of many Rocky Mountain Heroes. She?s a 4th grader at Olander Elementary in Fort Collins. When simply asked how many beads (about) she had in the picture below. Her parent's response was:

"The photo was taken during round 3 of treatment, so she has an additional string since this photo. She has a total of 568 beads."

The general color coding for each bead is as follows:

Yellow (133)    A night's stay in the hospital

White   (92)      A dose of Chemotherapy.

Silver    (7)        Surgeries

Black   (54)      A "Poke" (IV, Port Access).

Red      (41)      A Blood Transfusion.

Brown  (1)        Hair Loss

Purple   (96)     An Infusion. (Antibiotics, Anti-Nausea, Reaction Control, Pain Relief)

Blue      (12)     Clinic Visit.

Lime     (28)      Isolation Day, Fever.

Green    (46)     Tests (CT Scan, X-Ray, EKG, MRI, Echo-Cardiogram, Bone Density Scan).
