Training Program
TNT provides a noncompetitive, comprehensive training program to prepare you for a triathlon. The program is designed with the busy person in mind, so most weekday workouts are 45-90 minutes or less, with longer workouts reserved for the weekend.
Designed and implemented by professional triathlon coaches, the training program consists of daily workouts tailored to multiple ability levels. A typical workout week includes two swims, two runs, two bike rides and a rest day. Coaches will provide valuable information on hydration, nutrition, injury prevention and equipment. Coaches lead group trainings on Saturday mornings as well as one night a week. Volunteer captains often lead group trainings on Sundays as well.
You will receive a monthly training schedule to follow. If you travel out of town during the training season, ask your coach and team manager for tips on getting the workout in while on the road.
Prerequisites and Equipment
TNT welcomes all levels of experience. Our training program is designed to turn the non-athlete into an endurance event finisher and to help seasoned athletes meet their training goals.
You will eventually need everything listed below. After Kickoff your coach will show you what you need, what you might want, and what to look for. As a TNT participant you receive a training shirt at Kickoff and an event jersey before your event.
Most participants get a road bike, but some people prefer a mountain or hybrid bike. No matter what kind of bike you ride, we recommend that you use road tires (not the knobby kind) to make it easier. If you don't have a bike yet, our coaches will help you select or borrow one. You do not need clipless pedals, but you must have a helmet!
- Swim suit or tri suit, goggles and towel
- Running shoes, socks, shorts/pants and hat
- Bicycle helmet, water bottles and spare tire kit
- Personal items like energy food, sunscreen, body glide, ect.
Do not worry about purchasing all of these items before the season starts. The coaches will provide you with more information and recommendations at the first training.
