Training and Coaching
With The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Training® (TNT), walkers, runners, cyclists and triathletes experience the camaraderie of a team sport and the thrill of personal accomplishment that comes from completing a marathon, half marathon, century ride or triathlon.
Experienced TNT coaches will begin leading team members through a comprehensive four to five-month training program designed to suit each individual's physical goals and abilities.
Participants are trained for optimum personal performance based on their own personal level of ability. TNT offers training for all athletic levels, from the seasoned athlete to the novice beginner. Each participant receives sound advice on form and technique, race strategies, equipment, injury prevention and nutrition. Team members benefit from increased strength, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance and weight control. Below is specific information about the marathon, triathlon and cycling training programs.
Marathons
Marathon group training sessions will occur one weekday evening and on Saturday mornings. These training sessions will be complemented by a series of clinics focusing on everything from proper fitness techniques, to determining the right shoes, injury prevention, and nutrition for runners. Triathlons
Triathlon group training sessions occur three times a week, two weekday evenings and on Saturday mornings, with a particular focus at each session. Expect swimming on one day, running on another with another focused on biking and running combined. These training sessions will be complemented by a series of clinics focusing on nutrition and hydration, injury prevention, bike fit and maintenance, transition tricks, shoes and gear. Cycling
Cycling group training sessions offer aerobic and resistance training along with spin classes over the first several weeks. This is followed by numerous cycling outings, ranging in location from Central Park to New Jersey to Westchester. Expect to do one ride a week, beginning with two or three loops of Central Park, with outings increasing in mileage up to 65 miles. Your training sessions will be complemented by a variety of helpful clinics. You will also have an experienced coaching staff guiding you every step of the way.
