1. What is Pedal for Patients?
Pedal for Patients is a twelve hour indoor spin event designed to challenge and inspire the individual rider or teams while supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Each block of 4 hours will be led by certified spin instructors or Team In Training coaches.
2. Who benefits from Pedals for Patients?
Pedal for Patients participants help raise funds on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission: To cure all blood cancers and improve the quality of life for the hundreds of thousand for patients battling these diseases.
3. When and where is the event?
Pedal for Patients takes place on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at The Studio on 147 East 72nd Street from 8am to 8pm.
4. How is the ride divided?
The day is divided into three blocks. Each block is four hours long. During a four hour block, there will be four sessions of 45 minutes (with 15 minute breaks in between). The Morning Block begins at 8 am. The Afternoon Block begins at noon. The Evening Block begins at 4 pm.
Blocks are first come first serve. There will be a wait list for teams that sign up after all 75 bikes are filled.
5. What is the fundraising requirement?
The fundraising minimum to secure one stationary bike for an individual or team for the full 4 hour block is $1000. (That is just $250 per rider for a team of 4!)
6. Can we sign up for more than one block?
Yes! Each additional block will require the individual or team to raise another $1000.
7. How many riders can be on a team?
For non-competitive teams, no more than 6 riders can participate in a four hour block. However, if a team adds an additional block they can add additional riders. * For competitive teams, please see rules for the Endurance Challenge below.
8. Can I sign up on my own?
Absolutely! Ambitious individuals can also secure their own bike for the full block by fundraising the $1000 minimum.
9. How long can each participant ride?
It will be up to the Team Captain to work with their team members to schedule their spin session within the 4 hour block. Team Captains will be asked to submit a roster of their riders, their order, and length of time on the spin bike by the day of the event.
10. What is my role as team captain?
Mainly, your job as Team Captain is to recruit your team and get their fundraising started. We make this part easy with the support of our Team In Training staff!
11. How do we fundraise?
There are many ways you and your team can fundraise. The Team In Training staff will provide you with a guide when you register. Most importantly your team will also receive an online fundraising page through our partners at DoJiggy.com.
12. What is the Endurance Challenge?
For those riders who want to test their stamina on the spin bike against other competitive riders, there will be an endurance challenge for individuals or teams of 3. To book a full 12 hour block for you or your team, the fundraising minimum is $3000. Special prizes and recognition for the riders who last the longest on their bike. *In cases of ties, where more than one individual or team reaches the 12 hour goal, tie breakers will be based upon the highest fundraisers.
13. How can I join Pedal for Patients ?
Each team member can fill out the registration form. Click HERE to access it. Then you can fax it back to us at 212.448.9215. Once we receive your team's forms, a TNT staff representative will contact the team with the fundraising guide and instructions on how to use your fundraising page.
14 . What is the registration cost for this event?
There is no registration fee for the event.
15. What if my team doesn't make the fundraising minimum?
We recommend that as soon as you sign up for the program, you begin to fundraising immediately. Your $1000 fundraising minimum is due May 4 th, 2009. If your fundraising minimum is not met by this date, your team will have the option of making a personal donation to bring them to their minimum, otherwise they will forfeit their bike to a wait listed team. At this point, all contributions made on your behalf remain contributions to LLS and are non-refundable should you withdraw from the program.
16. Will there be fundraising incentives or prizes?
Yes, there will be incentive prizes for the top 3 fundraising teams, top individual fundraiser, and special prizes for the Endurance Challenge winners.
17. Can I utilize a matching gift program? If so, where should the forms be sent?
Yes, check with your company or any of your donor's companies to see if they have a program that matches charitable gifts of their employees. This can be very advantageous as it can double the amount of a donation at no cost to the donor. Matching gift forms should be available in the human resources department of the company that offers it. Once the forms are completed they can be faxed to 212.448.9215 to the attention of Pedal for Patients.
18. If I receive a donation via check, what do I do?
Make sure the check is made out to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Then fill out the donor submittal form that you will receive with your fundraising guide. Finally, mail or drop off both the check and donor submittal form at our offices:
