Prerequisites
The Team In Training cycle programs are open to participants with any and all levels of biking experience and fitness level - from absolute beginners to experienced racers. Within each program, participants are divided into groups by preferred riding speed.
Location
North Texas cycle team trainings are held at various locations around the DFW Metroplex.
Training Program
TNT cycle coaches have designed three-to five-month training programs that prepare participants for the rides and tours. Participants will train and work directly with the coaches at weekly training sessions. (Coaches are also available throughout the week to answer training and fitness-related questions.) There will be one coached workout every weekend, usually on Saturday. Additionally, there will be midweek "buddy rides" midweek led by assistant coaches and other volunteers.
Participants receive complete workout schedules for the season. Three levels of program are provided for participants with different levels of cycling skills and experience. The program consists of daily workout schedules, team workouts on Saturdays and occasional weeknights, clinics on nutrition, proper bike and clothing selection and injury prevention.
A typical week schedule for our cycle program features:
- Team endurance training every weekend (mileage begins at 10-15 miles and builds to 75-80 miles before tapering prior to event weekend)
- Informal buddy rides organized throughout training season
- Two days of interval training on your own or in a group (can be done in spin class, on stationary bike or on the road)
- One to two days of strength training on your own
- One rest day
Coaches
The TNT cycle program offers a qualified and dedicated group of cycle trainers. Our coaches were selected for their experience, professionalism, knowledge and enthusiasm, as well as their devotion to the cause. All have extensive coaching experience and have proven themselves in numerous athletic endeavors.
Mentors
TNT cycle members will be matched in an approximate eight to one ratio with a past TNT participant. The mentor will serve as a resource and peer advisor, encouraging team members throughout the training and fundraising season.
Honorees
TNT cycle teams train and raise funds in honor of a local resident who has been affected by a blood cancer. Your honoree becomes your inspiration as you work toward goals that will better both of your lives.
Fundraising Milestones: What's Next?
Registration: When you sign up, you pay a registration fee to help LLS pay for the first six weeks of your training. LLS applies this fee to your fundraising minimum.
Kickoff: Meet your teammates, coaches and staff for the first time at Kickoff. Your first coached workout is in the week after Kickoff.
Recommitment (About ten weeks before your event): This is your opportunity to assess your progress. At recommitment, you make the decision to either stay on the team and finish your fundraising, or withdraw from the team with no further obligation.
When you recommit, LLS starts to pay for your event and other training expenses. Unless you've already met your fundraising minimum, you secure your place on the team by providing us with a check or a credit card number. We do not charge you anything at this time.
Fundraising deadline: You have until about two weeks before your event to meet your minimum. Most people surpass it, but if (and only if) you have not met your minimum by the deadline, you donate the remainder with the credit card or check you provided.
All of this allows us to ensure your donors and the patients and families we serve that 78% of LLS expenses go to the mission.
