"Team in Training changed my life. I was having trouble sleeping one night. At the time I was living with my cousin and had what I thought were major problems. As I sat on the bed thinking, the moonlight was shining through the window. It was shining right on a picture of my Aunt Mary. Then it struck me that she passed away at age 21 from leukemia. She never had a chance to live her life to the fullest and when she died her sons were one and two years old. Looking at her picture, put everything into perspective.
A few days later, I received a mailing for a meeting to sign up for Team in Training. When I realized it was from The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, a light bulb went off in my head. Instead of using my energy for self pity, I could do something positive and help raise money to fight the cancer that took my aunt. This was the beginning of my wonderful year of involvement with Team in Training.
What I expected was to train for an event and raise some money to fight cancer, but Team in Training became much more for me. Not only did I raise money for a great cause and get in shape, I met many wonderful friends along the way and participated in two unforgettable century rides. The experience also boosted my self-confidence and significantly raised my spirits. Being a member of Team in Training was one of the most positive experiences of my life and I hope to do another event soon."
