Words About the Program

Words From Past Participants:

"I can't say or write enough about how an event (and I don't just mean the day of the Tri) like this impacts the way one sees life.  Over the 6 months or so of training for this one day I watched myself and others do things that were originally just well intentioned aspirations.  You might recall that I could barely swim one length (25 yards) in a pool back in November and here I was in St. Petersburg swimming the equivalent of 64 lengths.  Unthinkable.  I watched cancer survivors some of whom were only 6 months into remission take on the next great challenge in their lives.  Not only conquering cancer, but pushing their still recovering bodies to do something that you think is slightly crazy.  Incredible."
-Don Kirkland, St. Anthony's Triathlon, 2006

"We all came into this ride for various reasons - from just trying to get into shape to helping a loved one battle the scourge of blood cancers, but in the end, we are all just one team!  We're not Metro Detroit and West Michigan, we're Michigan.  We're not just Michigan, we're Team In Training - nationwide; and we're not just Team In Training, we're the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  When one member of the team needs help, we're there to help as a team, whether that's a cyclist, a caner patient or both!"
-Ron Leuty, America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride, 2006

Team Mentor Experience

"Life's little nuisances like traffic jams, meetings and paying bills do not even come close to what the patients and their families must bear.  If running could cure cancer, I'd run a million miles with a smile on my face.  Too see people from all walks of life was something.  The lesson I re-learned is if you put your mind to it, you can do anything.  I am awestruck at each team member who set the goal to run or walk 26.2 miles on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.  One of the few true life-changing experiences."
Greg Sadler Team Mentor, 2003-2004

Team Honored Hero Experience

"Team In Training continues to reward us with heartfelt memories and the self satisfaction of achievement, but most of all for the fact that one small person just actually might help to find the cure and change peoples' lives.  We are so happy and honored to be part of the best organization I know of."
-Lori Blackwell Team Honored Hero, 2003

"Thank you so much for giving me such an amazing opportunity.  I had a blast volunteering at the marathon and I hope all the people really did get inspired by us.  One year ago I had my final radiation treatment and was still recovering from chemotherapy.  Thank you for making this time of year even more special for me!"
-Bethanie LaVoie Team Honored Hero, 2003 & 2006
