Ron Quan, Head Coach for summer Team

This is Ron's 4th season with Team In Training after starting as a participant on the Spring 2007 triathlon team. He has served twice as a web captain and has assisted in managing the team the past two seasons. He has raced the grueling Wildflower Triathlon on both the Half-Iron and Olympic distance courses. He has also competed in the San Diego International Triathlon, San Francisco Triathlon at Treasure Island, and various local runs. As an avid road cyclist, he brings solid experience and technical knowledge of bicycles to the team.

 Mike Janson

Mike Janson has been competing in triathlons since 2001 and has been coaching with Team in Training since 2007.  He was introduced to triathlon from a friend who was a first-time Team in Training participant competing in Wildflower in 2001.  In addition to coaching, Mike taught Spinning classes for 4 years at Gold?s Gym and was a personal trainer.   He is active in the Los Angeles Triathlon Club (LATri) and has been leading a weekly bike/run workout at Griffith Park for the last 5 years.  Mike has a master?s degree in public health and has studied nutrition and fitness.  He has also had some experience in fundraising, having completed 2 AIDS Rides from San Francisco to LA and a third from Fairbanks to Anchorage, Alaska.  In 2008, Mike raised $7,500 for Team in Training while training for an ironman-distance triathlon.

 Joy Ronstadt

Joy Ronstadt started with Team in Training as a participant in May of 2007.  She was inspired by all the people she met (especially her honored teammate, Evan) and went on to mentor, captain, and assistant coach.  It was an unexpected, but welcomed journey.  Joy completed her first Ironman in June of 2008, and is currently training for Ironman Canada in August 2009.

Why I got involved with TNT:

The first time I did TNT, it was very great fun and I got into the best shape of my life, or at least the last 10 years. If you want to do a long distance training program, this is the way to go. You are having fun and feeling good about  yourself and in helping others out. TNT is a great program that for me taught me how to swim- something I thought I was too old to do at the time.  It is definitely a program where the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.

Expectations I have of you:
Have FUN and help us to help you. Whether it is to help you fundraise or to help you learn your event. Our goal is to get you from the start to the finish, and to have fun and learn along the way. If you start this program, you will finish it; and have confidence that you will finish the race. The rest is up to you!

Why I got involved with TNT:
My interest in Team in Training began after my sister-in-law ran a marathon with Team in Training.  I signed up to do a triathlon and did not know what to expect.  I participated in the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in 2005 and caught the triathlon bug and have been coming back to Team In Training ever since.

Expectations I have of you:
We are fortunate to have our health and be able to train so enjoy every moment.  Ask as many questions as possible and have fun!

GO TEAM!!!

Tim Petlin is a Los Angeles native that has always enjoyed the outdoors and competing in sports. He swam competitively for over eight years in his youth, only to replace it with a love for cycling.  Once he got into running, moving into the sport of triathlons was a natural progression.  He has competed in many triathlons including several half Ironmans, two full Ironmans, and he has many more planned on the horizon.

Tim has been involved with Team In Training since 2005 and has lead hundreds of participants, both experienced athletes and newbees, to successfully complete Triathlons.  If you want it, he will not only ensure that you finish, but also he will do his best to make you as passionate about this sport as he is.

Tim holds triathlon coaching certificates from Team In Training's National Advisory Triathlon Board and was trained in coaching by six-time Ironman Champion Dave Scott.

Tim is very proud to be associated with Team In Training and its cause to help find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma.  Through his nurturing guidance, you will have a fantastic experience with TNT!  Go Team!

Hey there you burgeoning triathletes!
My name is Pete Brzycki (pronounced burr-ZICK-ee) and I'm honored to be one of your coaches for this season. Can't wait to help you cross your finish line and along the way I hope I can impart at least a little of the passion I've developed for this incredible sport. One thing I can guarantee: We are going to have a lot of fun!
When I tell others why TNT has become such a big part of my life, it always comes down to one thing: The people. As you will soon experience, there is something special about those associated with this fantastic program. Every last one of them (at least the hundreds I've met) are simply good-hearted, out-going, interesting, giving, goal-oriented and just plain nice!
As far as our cause, it has a special place in my heart. My grandmother died of lymphoma when I was a kid and at that time there wasn't a whole lot they could do for her. Thankfully, things have really changed due to research funded in large part by Team In Training.
So, on those days when practice comes too early or you don't feel up to your workout, remember that you're doing this for those who would love to be able to get out and run a couple of miles or swim a dozen laps. Do it for THEM and you'll be amazed how proud you become of YOURSELF!
But beware! This sport and Team In Training are both addictive. This is my 4th season with TNT and in addition to a couple of half-Ironman competitions and a whole host of shorter ones, I'll be competing in (and hopefully completing) Ironman Florida in November of this year.
Feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions or need assistance. It wasn't that long ago that I was a complete newbie and I fully understand there can be a lot to take in. When I was a participant, I had a million questions and received great guidance, so I'm grateful for the opportunity to pay that forward.
Great people, great cause, great sport.. GO TEAM!!!

I first got involved with TNT 4 years ago when I went to my mailbox and found one of those TNT flyers you see everywhere.  When I read it through, I decided that this was exactly what I needed to be doing.  While I had been a competitive swimmer all through college, I hadn't been on a bike since I was 12 and couldn't run a mile without stopping, so I knew a triathlon would be just the challenge I was looking for.  My Aunt Sue died from non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma when I was 12, and she had been a competitive swimmer herself, so I thought this would be the perfect thing to do in her memory.  The rest is history, as they say and now, starting my 6th season with you, TNT and the triathlon community have become a significant part of my life.

If you?re starting to wonder what you?ve gotten yourself into, try not to worry!  Whether you?re a natural athlete looking to try a new sport or a complete beginner who always managed to get out of gym class as a kid, this program is for you.  Once you get involved with an organization like TNT and get to meet the  wonderful people that are a part of it, you?ll understand why your Mentors, Captains, and Coaches keep coming back every season to help new participants reach their own goals.

As a coach, my goal is to train you and get you so well prepared for your race that you will have the same great experience that I did and want to keep coming back for more.  I?m really looking forward to getting to know you, and sharing my knowledge and love of the sport with you.   We - your other Coaches, Captains and Mentors and I - are all here to help you, so please don?t hesitate to call or email any of us with your questions.

It?s going to be a great season!  Go Team!!
