Our Heroes

Noah & Georgie

Noah & Georgie are best friends, both 9 and both have experience going through treatments for ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia), also commonly know as Childhood Leukemia. Georgie finished his treatments in February and Noah is on year one of a 3 year course of chemotherapy treatments. Their Mothers, Deborah & Jere trained in their honor for Marathon events with Team In Training as part of TEAM SURVIVOR this past Spring. Noah & Georgie have this message for everyone that joins the TEAM: "Thank you for doing Team In Training. You ARE making a difference. You are helping people you know and many you will never meet. You are Wonderful and Strong and your courage makes everyone battling a blood cancer stronger! You are saving lives!"

Paul Gill

Paul is currently in his third round of treatments for multiple myeloma. Paul enjoys restoring his MGB GT and archery. Paul is also a big UK fan with is favorite color being, you guessed it, UK BLUE! Paul teaches us all to "look at the bright side of life" with his positive outlook on any day or situation. In his words he will, "Try every day to live up to my NEW NORMAL (of having cancer) and accept what I have, and make the most of each day. If I just have to rest all day, so be it. Nothing is so important that it can't wait till tomorrow. I am looking forward to many tomorrows!

Tabatha Gannon

My name is Tabatha Renee Gannon. I am happily married to Shawn Gannon and we have a beautiful daughter named Sophia. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and try to live every day to the fullest!

I had returned to work from maternity leave and noticed that I was extremely tired and became short of breath occasionally. My husband and I have UK season football tickets and we were trouble walking and breathing on the way to the stadium and back. Shawn wanted to take me to the ER but I refused! I later went to the doctor and had blood work done  I was a direct admit into Markey Cancer Center. I was diagnosed with AML October 1, 2007, my daughter was six months old. I started chemotherapy immediately.

The hospital stay was long and grueling but at least I was able to see my daughter every day when I would don my mask and meet them in the family room. It was a great reason to get out of bed every morning.  I went home at the end of the month. I returned in November, 2007 for consolidation chemotherapy, but was only there for 5 days. In December, 2007, I was informed that I was in remission but needed a bone marrow transplant otherwise the leukemia would return within two years and I possibly would not live to see my daughter turn five years old.

We started match searching with my sister to no avail. They found identical twin unrelated donors. I had two perfect matches. What a blessing! I received my transplant Feb 6, 2008. My new cells starting working 8 days post transplant so I got to leave the hospital two weeks post transplant which is unheard of.

I have been doing well since my transplant. I have never been on steroids and was taken of my anti-rejection medication six months post transplant. I have not had any graft vs. host complications. I also have been admitted since my transplant. Thank GOD!

I have been very blessed and am so thankful to be alive and well! I am honored to be part of such a great TEAM. Thanks to all of you who are participating, it means the world to me and every patient and their families. Always remember, " No one can do everything but everyone can do something!"

Ruth Adams

I just participated in my most recent TNT event "The Nations Triathlon". And I just want to tell you what a fantastic experience it was! I have done 5 TNT events to date and this was the most amazing one so far! The support from the sidelines was phenomenal but even better was the support from the other TNT racers! I'm not sure I could count how many times I said "Go Team" and how many times I heard it directed at me! And I crossed the finish line "Upright and moving forward" which is always my ultimate goal, with my family waiting for me at the finish line!

So, I am so excited for all of you who are on your way to your first (or 10th) TNT experience! You are going to have the race of your life, fast, slow, or otherwise! My goal is always to cross the finish line "upright, and moving forward" knowing that I am doing so much for my own body by continuing to train for these races and knowing that in the process I am raising money to fight the cancer that caused my body to fall apart in the first place!

Thank you, thank you for taking on this challenge!
