Triathlons

The Delaware Chapter's triathlon program provides the ultimate fitness experience for both veteran and novice triathletes. The program is one of the fastest-growing sectors of Team In Training®.

Triathlon: While completing an Olympic distance triathlon, you will start with a refreshing .9-mile swim followed by a 27-mile bike ride and then you will finish up with a 6.2 mile run or walk! The course will be mapped out and very well marked. A triathlon gives you a taste of all three major endurance events all wrapped up into one!

Triathlon Event Fall 2008

The Nation's Triathlon®  Be part of a first!!

Swim (.9 miles)/Cycle (27 miles)/Run/Walk (6.2 miles)

The first Nation's Triathlon To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take place in Washington, DC on Sept. 14, 2008. The Nation's Triathlon® welcomes our new Official National Charitable Partner! The Nation's Triathlon To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the first world-class triathlon with an added value-each participant has the opportunity to help cure blood cancers. In 2006, the first Nation's Triathlon took place in Washington, DC, with an ambitious goal: to become the largest, most organized and well-produced triathlon in the world. Now in its third year, this stellar athletic event has partnered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to become the first triathlon to help cure blood cancers: leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma.

Triathlon Training

The training consists of a 14 to 16-week program for beginner, intermediate and advanced triathletes. You will train for an Olympic distance triathlon.

Depending on your skill level and performance desires, participants may start off training for 10 hours and increase to 30 hours per week closer to the event.

You will need to purchase a good pair of running shoes. We recommend going to a speciality running store where an experienced salesperson can gauge your running style and form.

Official TNT wet suits for races with expected water temperatures below 78 degrees will be provided to participants. If the race is not expected to have cold water temperatures, participants will have to purchase their own swim suit.

Road or triathlon bikes are the preferred type in triathlons due to their lightweight, aerodynamic design. Mountain and hybrid bikes are usually too heavy to acheive maximum performance.

Before purchasing any equipment, we would advise you to contact the TNT coaches. Team In Training has partnerships with local cycle and sport shops offering discounts to participants.
