Team In Training's triathlon program offers the opportunity to take on the challenge of swimming, cycling, and running an Olympic-distance triathlon and make a difference in the lives of an estimated 912,938 Americans living with blood cancers. 

Along with a customized-training program and expert coaching, participants will train with a local group of like-minded individuals for motivation and inspiration.


Team In Training (TNT) is currently recruiting for the following triathlons. Please note that participation in a TNT event is subject to the local availability of group training and transportation arrangements. Please consult the TNT staff at your local chapter for additional details.

Lone Star Triathlon Festival
April 24, 2009

Held at Moody Gardens, this course is guaranteed to be fast and fun! The swim will begin at Moody Gardens' beautiful white sand Palm Beach, and finish next to the majestic Colonel Paddlewheel boat, with approximately 100 participants per wave. There will be lifeguard and boat support provided by Galveston Beach Patrol. Average water temperature is 72 degrees F. The bike course is a loop course along the Gulf Coast of Texas. Head out of Moody Gardens and hammer along the Seawall and hug the Texas coastline.. The course is flat and fast! Nary a speedbump to be found. The run is a FLAT course meandering through Moody Gardens, it?s tropical gardens and towering glass pyramids, along Offats Bayou and Palm Beach. There will aid stations every mile stocked with Gatorade Endurance Formula, Water, PowerBars, PowerGel Energy Gels, fruit, defizzed cola, Salt and Vinegar potato chips, pretzels, and just about anything else you could dream of. Live entertainment featuring great bands, cheerleaders and more will be keeping your endorphins kicking in!

Triathlon Training Program
TNT triathlon coaches have designed three to five month training programs that prepare participants for the target triathlons.  Participants will train and work directly with the coaches at weekly Saturday and midweek trainings.  Coaches are also available throughout the week to answer training and fitness-related questions.  Additionally, there will be midweek "buddy trainings"  led by assistant coaches and other volunteers (mentors & captains).

The training program is designed and implemented by professional triathlon coaches. It consists of daily workout schedules, team workouts every week, clinics on nutrition, proper swim technique, bike maintenance, proper shoe and clothing selection, speed work, injury prevention and much more.

The program is designed to take triathletes from a beginning base and build gradually over the course of the program, tapering two weeks prior to the event weekend.

Daily workout schedules are provided so participants know what to do each day.  The training program is designed with the busy person in mind. Most weekday workouts are an hour or less, with longer workouts reserved for the weekend. A typical weekly schedule for our triathlon program includes:

  • Two days of running
  • Two days of swimming
  • Two days of biking
  • Longer, coached team endurance trainings every weekend
  • One day of coaches' workouts, focusing on speed work during the middle six weeks of the program.
  • One rest day
