We are here to help you and make your Team In Training experience successful and meaningful.
Our office hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.
YOUR MENTOR
Participants will be matched with a Mentor in the same sport (run, walk, cycle or triathlon). The Mentors were successful with their own training and fundraising and want to support new team members. They will serve as a resource and peer advisor. They are volunteers who are very committed to our mission and to making your Team In Training experience a rewarding and successful one. The Mentors will introduce themselves to you by phone before the Season Kick Off and will contact you on a weekly basis for the rest of the season to convey important information and to support you with your fundraising and training. In consideration of their time, please return their calls and/or emails promptly.
Please contact your Mentor for team information or to answer any of your questions. Because the Team In Training staff is limited, returning all participants' calls and/or emails quickly is difficult.
The Mentors are our valued resources to ensure that you get a quick response to your questions and concerns. Of course, you are also welcome to call The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society office at any time.
OUR HEROES
TNT Honored Teammates
We are fortunate to have a special group of team members, our heroes, the team Honorees. We will assign a Team Honoree to you. Your Honoree is a local patient whose life has been affected by leukemia or a related cancer. So often people are asked to raise funds for a charity with very little connection or understanding of the value of their efforts. By honoring a member of our own community, and hearing their story first hand, you are able to understand the extreme value of your efforts.
We provide you with a hospital wristband to put your Honoree's name on. Wear this wristband throughout your training period. As the miles get longer and longer, you can look down at your wrist and think of the person whose battle does not guarantee an end. As you fundraise, the wristband will prove to be a great way to gain the attention of potential donors! Past participants have reported being on an airplane or in line at the grocery store, and having the person next to them ask about the wristband. Yes, they then donated to their fundraising campaign on the spot!
"I've Not Yet Met My Honoree"
Remember that the Honorees are all in different stages of their treatment and remission. If they can't attend certain events, they may not be feeling well. If your patient has not been involved, give them a call or drop them a card. They would love to get to know you, and would truly appreciate your concern and all of the hard work and energy you devote to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
"Can I Train in Honor of Someone Other Than a Team Honoree?"
Of course! Your honoree is someone who provides motivation and inspiration to train and fundraise. Please let your Mentor know who you are training in honor, in memory, or in celebration of and if possible, with their diagnosis. You can also train in honor of one of our Team Honorees in addition to your own honoree.
"How Can I Get to Know My Honoree?"
The Honorees are involved in this program because they want to be. Please feel free to send a note or invite them out for ice cream or pizza! They would love it. We will invite each honoree to team and social events, but an extra letter from one of their participants would be a special invitation.
