Team In Training's cycling program offers the opportunity to take on the
challenge of 100 miles and make a difference in the lives of 785,829
Americans living with blood cancers. Along with a customized training
program and expert coaching, participants train with a local group of
like-minded individuals for motivation and inspiration.
TEAM IN TRAINING®
(TNT) Offers cycling events during our
Summer and Winter seasons. Our next cycle event
will
be:
America's Most Beautiful Bike
Ride ~ Lake Tahoe, Nevada ~ June 7,
2009
You do
not need to purchase a brand new bike before our first group training
session. Team In Training participants have done centuries on all
types of bicycles. Besides the bike, you must have a helmet to ride
and equipment to deal with a flat while riding and a hydration
system (water bottles & cages on the bike or a camelback type
bladder). Steven's Bicycles and Tri-Sport are just a few of the
Friends of Team In Training that will offer you discounts on these items
just for being a member of the team. The discounts are good for
training apparel as well.
The Training Schedule
Our coaches provide workout schedules
that break down the workout for each day. Mileage begins at 10-20 miles,
depending on your current fitness level, builds to 80-90 miles, and finally
tapers prior to your event. Longer workouts are scheduled on the
weekends. This is a sample of what to expect on the training schedule:
-
- Team endurance training every *Saturday (mileage begins at 10-20 miles,
depending on your fitness level, and builds to 80-90 miles before
tapering prior to event weekend)
- "Buddy Rides" on a weekday evening led by TNT mentors
- Interval training
- One to two rest days
The comprehensive cycle program also includes clinics on proper bike
selection and fit, clothing, maintenance, injury prevention and safety as
well as nutrition. Based on this schedule, three-four months of
training, team participants will be able to comfortably finish their
century or endurance ride.
